Oman’s low-cost carrier SalamAir is set to launch direct flights between its capital Muscat and Kigali, expanding its African network with a new route aimed at strengthening connectivity between the Middle Eastern country and Rwanda.
The airline made the announcement on April 30, 2026.
The service, scheduled to begin on July 21, 2026 pending regulatory approval, will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering passengers affordable travel options with one-way fares starting from OMR 69.99 (approximately Rwf265,000).
According to SalamAir, the addition of Kigali marks another milestone in its strategic expansion, building on its continued growth across Africa and aligning with its vision of connecting underserved and high-potential markets.
The route is expected to support increasing commercial exchange between Oman and East Africa, facilitating business travel, trade opportunities, and stronger economic links between the two markets.
“Kigali is a natural addition to our growing African network, offering strong fundamentals across business and leisure travel. Rwanda has seen consistent growth in tourism and business travel in recent years,” said Steven Allen, Chief Commercial Officer at SalamAir.
“Kigali itself is a vibrant, modern gateway—known for its culture, markets, and historical landmarks—and it opens the door to some of Africa’s most compelling nature and eco‑tourism attractions,” he added.
The launch of SalamAir’s direct flights to Kigali follows efforts by Oman and Rwanda to increase their bilateral ties.
Earlier this year in Muscat, both countries signed four agreements in logistics services, transportation, development as well as ICT and Innovation.
This month, Rwanda’s Aviation and Travel Logistics (ATL) Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Oman Airports to explore strategic cooperation in aviation development and related infrastructure.
Both countries share longstanding diplomatic ties spanning nearly three decades.
