The Chief executive officer of Zimbabwe’s Mutapa Energy Resources Innocent Rukweza has been appointed chairman of the Lithium Association of Zimbabwe.
Rukweza’s appointment comes as Zimbabwe seeks to position itself as a major player in the global lithium market.
Zimbabwe holds the largest lithium reserves in Africa and is a top-five global producer.
Rukweza brings extensive experience in lithium mining, having held senior positions at Zimbabwe’s strategic mining companies Sandawana Mines, Kuvimba Mining House, and Great Dyke Investments.”
In a statement, Mutapa Energy Resources’ board, management and staff said they were confident in Mr Rukweza’s ability to steer the country’s lithium industry towards greater growth and competitiveness.
“We extend our sincere congratulations to Mr Innocent Rukweza on his appointment as chairman of the Lithium Association of Zimbabwe,” the company said.
“We are proud of this remarkable achievement and wish him every success in his new role as he leads and advances the growth of Zimbabwe’s lithium industry.”
The appointment comes at a time when Zimbabwe is strengthening its position as one of Africa’s leading lithium producers, driven by increasing global demand for critical minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy technologies.
With Zimbabwe seeking to maximize benefits from its vast lithium deposits, industry observers will be watching closely as the association charts its agenda under Mr Rukweza’s leadership.
