Three million customers joined M-KOPA in the past year as FY25 revenue increased by 45%

Business Correspondent

Nairobi, Kenya: M-KOPA is marking its 15th anniversary after reaching 10 million customers since its founding in 2011. The pan-African fintech also reported record revenue of US$600 million for the 2025 financial year, up 45% from 2024.

Of the 10 million customers reached since inception, three million customers joined M-KOPA during the past 12 months, reflecting continued demand across Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and South Africa.

Revenue growth was matched by continued investment in the team. M-KOPA added approximately 200 new full-time roles – a 9% increase in headcount – while more than 5,000 new sales agents joined its distribution network.

“2025 was a record year for M-KOPA, with customer and revenue growth reaching new highs”, said Chief Financial Officer Faraimose Kutadzaushe. ” We maintained profitability while reinvesting as much as possible in our products, technology and distribution to scale our reach across Africa’s massive, underserved market of everyday earners. We are still very early in our growth trajectory.”

M-KOPA employs over 2500 FTE and has created income generation opportunities for its nearly 50,000 sales agents. The company currently onboards approximately 10,000 new customers per day, and receives micropayments at a rate of 23 times per second.

Increasingly, the majority of customers use more than one M-KOPA product over the course of a multi-year relationship, including smartphones, digital loans and electric mobility products.

Founded initially as a provider of financed solar systems, M-KOPA expanded into smartphone financing in 2020. Since then, the company has recorded a five-year compound annual growth rate of 50% and has been recognized as one of the largest and longest-standing companies to feature on the Financial Times’ annual list of Africa’s fastest-growing companies.

M-KOPA has also recently introduced electric-vehicle financing and is emerging as a leading provider in Kenya, with more than 10,000 electric motorcycles and three-wheelers financed and now in operation across the country.

The company has increased its investment in the design and manufacture of affordable, high-quality smartphones, including through technology acquisitions and the opening of Africa’s largest smartphone-assembly factory in Kenya. Its latest generation of smartphones, the X4 series, launched this month.

About M-KOPA

M-KOPA is a leading inclusive fintech that transforms traditional barriers into opportunities for inclusive growth across Africa. Where others see obstacles in providing credit to those without formal salaries or credit histories, M-KOPA has built Africa’s leading smart money platform that starts with financing a smartphone, processes over 2 million payments daily, and has unlocked over $2 billion in credit.

Operating across five African markets, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa, M-KOPA provides affordable asset financing (smartphones and e-motorbikes) and digital financial services to micro-entrepreneurs excluded from traditional financial services. M-KOPA smartphones become gateways to comprehensive digital financial services through their embedded services platform, with micro-repayment models that mirror how Every Day Earners actually earn and spend.

M-KOPA has been named to the Financial Times’ Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies list for five consecutive years and to CNBC’s World’s Top Fintech Companies for the second consecutive year, delivered through Africa’s largest direct sales distribution network of nearly 50,000 agents.
